Pack Committee Member

Thank you for volunteering with Cub Scout Pack 216 at The Garage! Whether you’ve been involved in Scouting before or not, we wanted to give you some information on your role as a Committee Member with our pack!

Your role as Pack Committee Member

Every pack is under the supervision of a pack committee. A strong pack committee will have individual members assigned to such areas as record keeping and correspondence, finances, advancement, training, public relations, and membership and re-registration. As a committee member, your main responsibilities are:

  • Help recruit pack leaders

  • Work with the Chartered Organization Representative to ensure the Garage’s policies and procedures are followed in the Scouting program.

  • Help coordinate and communicate with parents.

  • Supervise pack finances and equipment.

  • Work closely with the Cubmaster to plan the Scouting program.

  • Committee roles are available in various areas like treasurer, secretary, recruiting, planning, etc.

About the Garage

The Garage In Gilman is a community center established in 2015. We have programs for youth and senior citizens, funded entirely by donations. We also hold community events (blood drives, organization meetings, etc.) and serve as the chartered organization for Cub Scout Pack 216. As a volunteer for Cub Scouts, you are considered a Garage volunteer - we will have you fill out a volunteer application so we can do reference/background checks. Once approved, you will receive a copy of our policies and procedures for review. The Cub Scout pack is part of the Garage, so the Garage policies are important to understand!

Training

Training is essential for effective Cub Scout leadership. The BSA offers online course, some of which are mandatory, while the council provides some in person options for additional training.

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required by the BSA before you are allowed to register as an adult leader. You cannot begin your role as Committee Member until this training has been successfully completed! To begin this training, you will need to set up a My.Scouting account and enroll here:

After completing YPT, you should complete the online Committee Member training series, also offered in scouting.org - learn more here.

The Prairielands Council offers in person training that you may find helpful:

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) is a great way to learn about Cub Scouting’s outdoor programs, including how to facilitate a successful campout. More information here.

For additional training options offered by the Prairielands Council, information can be found here.

Once again, THANK YOU for volunteering your time and energy to help Cub Scouts!
