Pack Committee Chair

Thank you for volunteering with Cub Scout Pack 216 at The Garage! Whether you’ve been involved in Scouting before or not, we wanted to give you some information on your role as a Committee Chair with our pack!

Your role as Pack Committee Chair

Every pack is under the supervision of a pack committee, and that committee needs a leader! As committee chair, your main responsibilities are:

  • Maintain a close relationship with the Chartered Organization Representative, keeping them informed of the needs of the pack.

  • Confer with the Cubmaster on policy matters relating to the Cub Scout program and the chartered organization.

  • Supervise pack committee operation by:

    • Calling and presiding at pack leaders' meetings

    • Approving bills before payment by the pack treasurer

    • Conduct the pack program planning meetings.

    • Cooperate with the Cubmaster on council-approved money earning projects so the pack can earn money for materials and equipment.

    • Manage finances through adequate financial records.

    • Maintain adequate pack records and take care of pack property.

About the Garage

The Garage In Gilman is a community center established in 2015. We have programs for youth and senior citizens, funded entirely by donations. We also hold community events (blood drives, organization meetings, etc.) and serve as the chartered organization for Cub Scout Pack 216. As a volunteer for Cub Scouts, you are considered a Garage volunteer - we will have you fill out a volunteer application so we can do reference/background checks. Once approved, you will receive a copy of our policies and procedures for review. The Cub Scout pack is part of the Garage, so the Garage policies are important to understand!

Training

Training is essential for effective Cub Scout leadership. The BSA offers online course, some of which are mandatory, while the council provides some in person options for additional training.

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required by the BSA before you are allowed to register as an adult leader. You cannot begin your role as Committee Chair until this training has been successfully completed! To begin this training, you will need to set up a My.Scouting account and enroll here:

After completing YPT, you should complete the online Committee Chair training series, also offered in scouting.org - learn more here.

The Prairielands Council offers in person training that you may find helpful:

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) is a great way to learn about Cub Scouting’s outdoor programs, including how to facilitate a successful campout. More information here.

For additional training options offered by the Prairielands Council, information can be found here.

Once again, THANK YOU for volunteering your time and energy to help Cub Scouts!
